That's the spirit! Great starter kit.
Cobs are so forgiving, smoke great, taste great, and need no real break-in, but you'll get some charred wood bitterness when you finish the first couple bowls as the hardwood in the bottom gets carbonized. Just keep going to get it out of the way. While letting a cigar go out is embarrassing, with a pipe expect to relight it a few times or more. Hold your hand around the bowl to feel the temperature - if you can't hold it to your cheek (on your face lol) without discomfort let it sit, relight, and slow down. Getting that pace will be the key when you get into briars. Check out some videos on packing but don't stress about it - it isn't as tricky as it can sound.
